British Library accused of ripping off historians

The historian Kathryn Rudy says she is out of pocket because of the fees she incurs

Art historians are being “fleeced” by the British Library and other institutions charging exorbitant fees for reproductions of pictures and manuscripts, according to an academic. She claimed: “The more I publish the poorer I am.”
Kathryn Rudy’s seventh work on medieval art is due to be released next year but paradoxically, she said, her success will leave her out of pocket because of the fees she incurs in finding and publishing images.
The British Library charges for study images, which are not of sufficient quality for publication, and copyright fees for works reproduced in books or exhibitions.
